Why conscious creative living is the pathway to progress in the next decade

Consciousness is defined as: “the state of being awake and aware of one’s surroundings”, “the awareness or perception of something by a person”, “the fact of awareness by the mind of itself and the world.”

Each of us have an innate vision of an ideal existence. This vision is usually cultivated subconsciously through cultural conditioning (perceived acceptable behaviors/attitudes), inherited schemata (patterns of thought or behaviors that organize categories of information and the relationships among them) epigenetics (how our cells read genes in our DNA) and fueled by our environments. These environments are always how we perceive and interpret our surroundings. Where a jungle might be uncomfortable to someone used to a dry climate, to those who grow up in tropical environments, it feels like home. We tend to “go with the flow” in our lives until the flow stops feeling easy.

Somewhere along the way, our subconscious expectation of our behaviors didn’t meet up with our perceived payoff and we can feel misled, angry, depressed or disillusioned with life. We didn’t get what we expected. Our payoff may come in the form of finances, objects, experiences or relationships. No matter what our payoff includes, at our core, we are all human beings searching for the same things: love and purpose, which encompasses connection, acceptance and understanding.

Although our generation has more information available at our fingertips than any others before us, we remain desperately disconnected from ourselves and others. Human beings crave authentic, meaningful interaction yet become lost in a sea of endless scrolling on social media, drive thru’s and automatic thoughts and behaviors. The irony is realizing all living things from our past, present and future are interconnected. We know more about history than ever before, but continue to repeat it. While we pause to figure out which puzzle piece is missing, we may find ourselves confused trying to separate emotion from evidence.

When we are consciously living, we become the alchemists of our lives and more in control of of our responses and healing. The more awake we are as individuals the better progress we can make as a generation and hopefully leave our planet better off than we found it for our kids and generations to come.

My hope and prayer is that the next twenty years show a society capable of enduring life while thriving and not striving. That we’d recognize the answers are within us all, but to tap back into our natural state, we might have to look at things a little differently. We must risk failing again to gain the real reward we all crave and the only thing that will drive us forward — love.

As I set off to begin publishing regularly again, I’m mindful of what I’m trying to cultivate. By combining the best of what I’ve learned in 11+ years of consulting and working in eCommerce, digital marketing, the science of Creativity, building relationships, manufacturing and design, I’m not sure what this will evolve into. I’m focused on practicality above all, so you’ll likely encounter many practical tips that anyone can use to tap back into their most creative, authentic selves.

I believe by carving out your own path to higher consciousness, you will also achieve a greater sense of wellbeing and overall happiness. In the end, if we each take responsibility to do this for ourselves, it will trickle out into our own small worlds.

The world desperately needs you, your best you. My job is to be a witness to my own experience and share that with whoever wants to listen. I hope it’s helpful in the end.
